Portugal – Ground Handler Strikes

Update: Further to EmIS 120 Rev 1/2025, Correios de Portugal wishes to inform that Menzies, which provides ground handling services, has announced another series of strikes.   The strikes may have a significant impact on airmail handling operations, particularly the dispatch and receipt of international items. The disruption may also affect shipments to and from the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores.   The strikes will be held according to the following schedule, from 00.00 to 24.00 in each case:   * September: 3–9, 12–15, 19–22 and 26–28 * October: 3–6, 10–13, 17–20, 24–27 and 31–3 November * November: 7–10, 14–17, 21–24 and 28–1 December * December: 5–8, 12–15 and 19–2 January 2026   The strike initially scheduled from 00.00 on 29 August to 24.00 on 1 September has been cancelled.   CTT Correios de Portugal will monitor the situation closely to mitigate its impact and ensure the best possible response during this period.   CTT Correios de Portugal thanks all for their understanding.

Update: Portugal Post, Correios de Portugal, wishes to inform that Menzies, which provides ground handling services, has announced strike action at Portugal’s mainland airports during July and August, scheduled as follows (from Friday to the following Monday in each case):   * From 00.00 on 25 July to 24.00 on 28 July; * From 00.00 on 8 August to 24.00 on 11 August; * From 00.00 on 15 August to 24.00 on 18 August; * From 00.00 on 22 August to 24.00 on 25 August; * From 00.00 on 29 August to 24.00 on 1 September.   As normal ground handling operations cannot be guaranteed during these periods, disruption to both inbound and outbound mail services is to be expected. Furthermore, in view of the strikes, Lufthansa, Air France–KLM and LOT have declared an embargo on mail shipments on all their flights.   CTT Correios de Portugal thanks all for their understanding.
